Sound and Music

When reasearching into trailers and horror films we found the the sounds within the actual film and trailer are highly important. We found that they create the eerie atmosphere that's wanted to show to the audience. Although the actors and actual shots play the most important role during production they would not work with out the music.
Tension is created with the music, lighting, and also mise-en-scene. These elements need to be accurate and all work together in order to help the audience feel anxious and feel the same fear as the characters within the movie.
The sound levels also help to create the tension of the movie as usually the sound would get louder as someone/something gets closer to the character. Footsteps and breath could also be added to create the feeling of realism and putting the audience in the characters place.

we used 'youtube' to research real existing horror film trailers to particularly look at the sound. we looked at films such as 'the pact' and 'paranormal activity' This research of these real media texts extended and developed ouy research in a number of ways. For example we looked at 'The pact' and at the beginning of the trailer the sound is slow, quiet and escalating yet also creepy sounding as the girl is searching through the house looking afraid, this creates a build of suspense that climaxes to loud bangs and screams as the main character of the horror film is dramatically introduced. This is then combined with a cliffhanger and a tagline which entices the audience to want to watch the film to see what happens.
