In the teaser trailer for ‘The Exorcist’ we noticed that the when character of the little girl was being introduced as a demon, in addition to having an establishing shot to show the girl, the camera does a crash zoom into her face to create an intense dramatic effect creating a sinister scary effect which entertains the audience creating a much more interesting shot than if it was just an establishing shot.
This was very effective in dramatizing the footage. Looking at real media texts extended and developed our research because it not only helped us research the genre and storyline, but it additionally taught us the aspects of a professional Hollywood film trailer such as the way it looks short and fast and clean cut, how and when the title sequence and tag lines appear, how much of the content of the storyline that needs to be in the trailer, and it also taught us how music and camera movements combined is used to create dramatic suspense that fulfils the purpose of a teaser trailer. Research of Real media texts gave us inspiration to mirror these aspects our my own media product to fulfil the purpose of a teaser trailer which is to entice the audience into watching the film.
