Trailer Research 1
The first case study which we chose to look at was the trailer for 'The Pact'
Written and directed by - Nicholas McCarthy
Plot - As a woman struggles to come to grips with her past in the wake of her mother's death, an unsettling presence emerges in her childhood home.
Genre- Horror (American)
Length of trailer - 1 minute 45 seconds
Analysis
The First thing we liked was the way in which the text at the beggining of the trailer sets the scene so the viewers understand the plot without giving away too much information. Another thing is we really like how the screen regularly flashes/fades to black because this creates a thrilling atmosphere as the colour black is acsociated with darkness and evil.
Another thing is the music, because its very fitting for the genre of film, it reflects the tension given off by the clips and the actors mood.
We also liked how there are intervals of text describing the film with things such as "cork screwing tension" because these draw in the audience as they are intrigued by the quotes.

Different types of horror
After Discussing together, we have decided to create a horror/thriller film Trailer because we thought this was the most visually interesting of the genres and which would use our filming skills to the best advantage.
We have also researched the different types of horror film so we can be specific with what type of the genre we are going to produce. We have come up with this list by looking at multiple different horror film trialers of different types of story lines.
Different forms of horror are;
1. Supernatural- Supernatural Horror films usualy focus on the supernatural, usually ghosts or the occult. These usually revolve around the viewers worst fears or nightmares, terror of the unknown, things that usually wouldnt exist in normal everyday life. Films such as the omen, Paranormal Activity, The exorsist, The uninvited, The ring
2. Gothic Horror - This genre combines elements of both horror and romance such as Dracula, Frankenstein
3, Realistic Style Horror - These Focus on the horror of real life such as murders, rapists, torture , such as The lovely bones, The girl with the dragon tattoo
4. Physchological- This Relies on the use of fears, the confusion of the mind, beliefs, emotional instability. The horror does not often come from a ghost or monster, but as a human being with a horrific identity. Such as Shutter island, The shining, Saw.

Introduction
After looking at the possible briefs, for our A2 media coursework we have decided to produce a movie teaser trailer as the main project, and alongside this, create a
magazine front cover advertising the film, and then a movie
poster. We have chosen to do this, as we feel that we are most able to perform well in this tasks as our group have strengths in both film and print. Before we begin to produce our own work, we will research
existing trailers and genres before going on to looking at locations, actors,
props etc.
For our A2 media coursework we have decided to create a horror/thriller film trailer. We have been coming up with various ideas and looking at many trailers such as 'The Pact', 'The last house on the left' and 'The house at the end of the street'. Our aim for this piece is to make sure we capture the scary essence that horror films portray. Also, we need to make it very clear to the audience what genre the film will be. From watching many trailers we realise that we have to capture the imagination of the audience by using shots and scenes that are quick in pace and quite shocking/scary/thrilling in content. Aswell as this the music which is used for the trailers has to be chosen specifically to reflect the scary atmosphere of the trailer.
